Isaiah 53:3-4
He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.Isaiah called the coming Messiah “a man of suffering, and familiar with pain” (Is. 53:3), and in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus faced sorrow like He had never known. Truly, He “has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin” (Heb. 4:15). He understands our pain and afflictions, which is why He is our perfect Savior (Heb. 2:14–18).
